Emma Pyle is a visual artist working primarily in painting and drawing on unceded lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ territory, after graduating from the University of Victoria with a BFA and BEd. She focuses on aspects of memory, nostalgia, and ordinary life through watercolour, gouache, oil, and pencil crayon. Her work features elements of abstraction working jointly with small realistic studies, playfully blending mediums, inspired by working with children. Memory comes into her work through lived experience, and with connections to place – whether that is where she has lived or visited. Using collaged materials and personal photos to connect experiences together, it allows her to revisit particular moments in time, documenting what otherwise may be left to fade.

Her favourite thing to paint are birds, and is inspired by fruit, folds in fabric, rocks from the beach, and sad music. She is currently working as a teacher in district 61 and continues to make space for art as a daily occurrence.
